Former Gymnast gives Romania an Olympic Bronze Medal… in Rowing

Romanian gymnastics fans have a lot to celebrate since a former gymnast has given them an Olympic Bronze medal. Surprisingly it was in a sport that has nothing to do with gymnastics, since no tumbles or twists were required for Daniela Druncea to earn a bronze medal in Rowing (coxed eight).

Daniela was part of the 2006 and 2007 World Team. In 2007 she competed on vault and floor and in this last apparatus she contributed the second highest score (14.375) to her team’s lucky 3rd place finish. The Floor Music she used then is titled: Rhapsody in Rock IV by Robert Welles.

She was named an alternate to the 2008 Olympic Team and retired in 2009 after attending competitions like the Nadia Comaneci International. Afterwards she traded the hours of beam and bars training for training time on a boat as she took on Rowing.

Daniela, along with her team, has enjoyed a lot of success and already has two European Titles (2013 & 2014) and a World Championship silver medal (2014).

Watch Daniela talk about her gymnastics and rowing experience and remember her performance at the 2007 World Championships
