Famous Married Gymnastics Couples

Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci. Their story seems an extract from a fairytale, they first met at the 1976 edition of the American Cup where they were the winners and a photographer asked him to give her a kiss on the cheek in what became a picture for posterity as no one imagined then they would become husband and wife 20 years later in April of 1996. After 20 years of marriage and one child their love story is the real-life “and they lived happily ever after”

Valeri Liukin and Anna Kotchneva. Are another fairytale story where not only did they “live happily ever after” but their only daughter, Anastasia Liukin, became a World Champion (like her mother) and an Olympic Champion (like her father) in Beijing 2008, 20 years after their marriage in late 1988 when Anna was 18 and Valeri was 22.

Wu Jiani and Li Yuejiu. They both competed at the 1984 Olympic Games where they won Olympic medals with their teams Wu Jiani won bronze while Li Yuejiu won silver. They married two years later in 1986. Their daughter Anna Li (b. 1988) was an alternate for the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Olympic Games. The couple has their own gym Legacy Elite in Aurora Illinois which opened in 2009. The couple’s most famous pupils are the Caquatto sisters, MacKenzie was a part of the 2010 World Team while Bridgette was the 2011 PanAmerican All-around Champion.

Kim Zmeskal and Chris Burdette. They started dating when she was 19 years old; they married on October 23rd, 1999 at the Karolyi ranch where they met. They have three children: two boys born in 2005 and 2006 and a girl named Riven born in 2010. They own the gymnastics club “Texas Dreams” which opened in 2001.

Ludmilla Ezhova and Georgy Grebenkov. Growing up together in the training facilities of Round Lake, Ludmilla and her husband knew each other from a very young age and were married in June of 2005 when they were both 23. She took up his last name and became Ludmilla Grebenkova for the second part of her career between 2006 and 2008. The couple has two children and they currently live in the United States where they coach.

Dominique Moceanu and Michael Canales. They also met when they were very young but only started dating in 2001; they were married 5 years later in November of 2006. They have two children, a daughter named Carmen born in December of 2007 and a son Vincent born in March of 2009.  Their son is on the path of competitive gymnastics.

Marta Pihan and Roman Kulesza. They were married in September of 2008 when Marta was 21 and Roman was 25. Marta chose to hyphen her named and became known as Marta Pihan-Kulesza for the best part of her career. For many years they were the only married couple competing in gymnastics. They are currently expecting their first child.

Hollie Vise and Alexander Naddour. They were married on May 2nd 2015 and welcomed their first child a daughter named Lilah Kate Naddour in February of 2016. Hollie, the 2003 World Champion on bars, retired in 2004 while Naddour recently competed at the 2016 Olympic Games where he won a bronze medal in the Pommel Horse.

Ksenia Semenova and Denis Ablayzin. After a long engagement Denis and Ksenia married in September of 2016 and welcomed their first child, a son named Yaroslav, in January of 2017. Ksenia, the 2007 World Champion on bars, retired in 2010 while Ablayzin won three medals at the Rio Olympics.

Angelina Kysla and Igor Radivilov. The couple tied the knot days after the Rio Olympics ended and now they are the only married couple currently competing. At the 2016 Arthur Gander Memorial in late 2016 Angelina was addressed as Igor’s new wife however since 2017 Angelina has been using her married named. The first time she was presented as Angelina Radivilova was at the 2017 Baku World Cup.
