Angelina Melnikova wins the 2016 Arthur Gander Memorial

The Arthur Gander Memorial has a unique format, is an all-around competition but gymnasts only compete on three apparatus. They choose which ones to compete.

In sixth home-gymnast Ilaria Kaeslin, who struggled on beam and Floor. Ilaria is usally strong on beam but this time her acro-series troubled her, she almost came off but managed to grab the beam, so her feet never touched the ground. On Floor, she had a deep landing on her double tuck and gave a big step back and out of bounds, her last pass a 2.5 twist also had a troubled landing. Ilaria’s best score was vault with a 13.450

In fifth Germany’s Carina Kroll who had a scary fall on her split leap mount on beam. The rest of her routine was solid, but because of the fall she only got a 12.250. Carina’s top scoring event was her “Hit The Road Jack” themed Floor routine which earned her a 13.550. She also did well on vault with a 13.400

For Switzerland’s Caterina Barloggio the problem came on bars when she missed her piked Jeager however she made up on beam with a very secure routine that earned her the second best beam score, a 13.800. Floor was also good for Caterina with a 13.050.

In third, 30-year-old Jessica Lopez who enchanted with her “Flesh & Bone” themed Floor routine however what got her into the podium was her massive 14.350 on bars. No surprise since she was a bars finalist at the Olympics in Rio.

In second Eythora Thorsdottir who did superbly on beam and of course was the most artistic and expressive on Floor, however, on vault she landed very short loosing valuable tenths.

Gold medal winner Angelina Melnikova came off on a side somi on beam but performed very well on vault where she stuck her double twisting Yurchenko and also delivered a Russian-calibre bars routine, to place first by an almost two-point difference ahead of Eythora Thorsdottir.
