10 Cool Facts from the 2024 Pan-American Championships

1. The United States did not send a senior team, still, an American won all-around gold. Michelle Pineda who trains at Metroplex Gymnastics (Texas) but has a FIG license to represent Mexico won the all-around with a 52.900.

2. In her first competition representing Mexico, Michelle Pineda also won beam gold and silver on Floor; plus she helped her team to bronze.

3. Tied with Michelle Pineda for second on Floor was Brazil’s Hellen Silva. Both scored a 13.100 to finish behind Mia Mainardi who scored a  13.167

4. Mia Mainardi was second all-around. The highest ranking for Argentina at a Pan-American Championships.

5. The competition was held in Santa Martha, Colombia. The host country won gold on bars through Daira LaMadrid (13.067)

6. Hillary Heron who finished last on vault at the 2023 edition was second (13.617) behind teammate Karla Navas (13.867)

7. Meline Mesropian who was 7th on bars last year finished 3rd this time around.

8. Sydney Turner was the only Canadian to return from her country’s last year team. In 2023 she only won team bronze; this time around she took team and bars silver and beam bronze.

9. Brazil jumped from finishing fifth as a team last year to gold this time around. Andreza Lima was part of both teams and this time she also won silver on beam and bronze in the all-around.

10. The United States did send a junior team and while they won three golds: bars and Floor (Gabrielle Hardie), beam (Isabella Anzola), the prestigious all-around title went to Lia Monica Fontaine from Canada. Hardie finished second behind her.
