10 Cool Facts from the 2024 Varna World Cup

1. Host country, Bulgaria, won gold on vault through Valentina Georgieva. This was no surprise since Valentina qualified to the Olympics by placing in the top three on vault in all her World Cup participations.  

2. The only routine to have a 6 plus D-score was Elisabeth Seitz’s who with a 6.1 bars routine (14.400 score) won the gold medal.

3. Canada’s Clara Raposo qualified 2nd to the bars final but withdrew. Without her the gymnasts qualified in 3rd (Yelizaveta Hubareva) and 4th (Rose Woo) jumped one place to win silver and bronze respectively.

4. Croatia’s Sara Sulekic, who entered the final due to Raposo’s withdrawal, finished fourth (13.233).

5. Romania’s Andreea Preda had qualified 1st to the beam final but finished 7th after counting two falls. The title went to France’s Lucie Henna. (5.1 D-score, 13.066)

6. However, the most difficult beam routine presented in the final came from Ukraine’s Diana Lobok (5.7 D-score) who finished 2nd with a 13.033; just a 0.033 shy from gold.

7. There was a tie for beam bronze between Ruby Evans (Great Britain) and Adela Balcova (Slovakia). They had the same D and E score for a total of 12.866

8. However Ruby Evans got her solo moment when she won gold on Floor. (13.300)

9. Ruby Evans and Karina Schönmaier were the only gymnasts to win two medals. Ruby floor gold and beam bronze while Karina won vault silver and Floor bronze

10. Tijana Korent, who was last year’s vault gold medallist, finished fourth (12.950) this time behind Mexico’s Alexa Moreno. (13.749)
