10 Cool Facts from the 2024 U.S. Nationals

1. Shilese Jones, 2nd all-around, and Kaliya Lincoln 2nd on Floor at the Core Hydration Classic withdrew from the competition and petitioned to compete at the Olympic Trials. Their petition was accepted.

2. Gabrielle Douglas withdrew from the competition citing an ankle injury and is definitely out of the run for the Olympics, however, she intends to try for 2028.

3. Superhuman Simone Biles won the all-around and all the event finals.

4. So, lets talk about the normal human beings who placed 2nd behind her. Skye Blakely finished 2nd all-around, improving from a 5th place finish at the Core Hydration Classic.

5. Skye Blakely also finished 2nd on vault ahead of World Champion Jade Carey who had to settle for third.

6. On bars, Jordan Chiles scored 14.500 both days while Simone scored a 14.650 and 14.400, in the end, Simone beat Jordan by a 0.050 difference.

7. On beam, Simone Biles scored a 14.800 both days while Sunisa Lee scored a 14.900 on day 2 but had a carryover score of 14.200 from day one (she had a major wobble on her acro series), so, she finished 0.500 behind Simone Biles.

8. Sunisa Lee’s second day beam score of 14.900 was the only score to beat what Simone Biles’ had scored that same day on that same apparatus. Her D-score of 6.7 is higher than what Simone was credited for her beam routines on day one (6.4) and day two (6.5)

9. On Floor, Simone Biles, scored a 15.200 and a 15.100 for day 1 and day 2 respectively, while second place finisher, Kayla Di Cello, scored a 13.850 and 13.950 respectively.

10. Interestingly, Joscelyn Roberson was the only gymnast to achieve a 14.000 mark on Floor (day 2), no other gymnast broke the barrier, however, Joscelyn had a carryover score from day one of only a 13.300 after counting a 0.3 for out of bounds deductions on her double layout,. Joscelyn, had the highest D-score (6.3) behind Simone Biles’ D-score of 7.0 and ended up fourth in a three way tie with Leanne Wong and Jade Carey.

Extra Cool Fact. WOGA’s Claire Pease won the junior all-around title making it a three for three; she had previously won the Winter Cup and Core Hydration Classic.
